The Waterberg Plateau Park, with its sheer red cliffs and fascinating rock formations, rises up from flat savannah plains to 200 m above the surrounding landscape. Due to the fact that it is largely inaccessible, it serves as a protected breeding area for endangered animal species including black and white rhinoceros, buffalo, sable and roan antelope. There are over 200 bird species, including the only colony of the endangered Cape Vulture left within Namibia.
