Ecological conservation.
Both through the Erongo Mountain Nature Conservancy and more directly at the lodge, Erongo Wilderness is strongly involved in conservation work. EMNC has made a great difference to the poaching that used to be rife in this area and this has now made it possible to be part of the Black Rhino custodian programme run in conjunction with the "Save the Rhino" Trust and the Ministry of Environment and Tourism. This has been a long and hard campaign to get off the ground but finally the first rhinos were reintroduced to the area in October 08.
At the lodge, research has played an important role in understanding the rare and endemic species within this rich bio-diverse environment. Projects have included studies on the black mongoose, elephant shrew, dassie rat, Carps black tit and white tailed shrike. The lodge promotes a positive dialogue between local guides and researchers in order for both to learn more from each other.
